Kingsteignton Kitchens and Joinery

This friendly family-run business was established in May 2009 by Jon Roach, who has gained more than 27 years' experience in working with all aspects of furniture design and manufacture.

Kingsteignton Kitchens and Joinery specialises in producing handmade, bespoke kitchen furniture and free-standing pieces such as dressers and tables, as well as the supply and installation of quality fitted kitchens, plus a full design service. It also supplies furniture for bedrooms, home studies and bathrooms.

The company is currently working on a number of local projects, including making kitchen, utility and bathroom furniture for a property in the South Hams, alterations to accommodate an Aga in a kitchen in Plymouth, and making replacement work surfaces for a property in Dawlish. "Particularly exciting is a project in Cullompton that features a fabulous bespoke kitchen island, window seat area with bookcases and a freestanding sideboard," Jon says.

Having moved to new premises last May, the company now has a furniture workshop at ground level, with the potential for a showroom on the upper level. "We are in the process of renovating the upper area and have chosen from a huge selection of kitchens to show five displays, four of which are quality fitted kitchens that cater for varying budgets depending on the customers' needs. One example is a completely bespoke, handcrafted, fully-working kitchen with a central island showcasing various ovens, dishwashers, sinks and taps," says Jon, adding: "The plan for the future is to extend the space upstairs to accommodate displays of bedroom and bathroom furniture products."

The Grand Opening of the new showroom takes place in the New Year. Keep an eye out for details on our website, as a local restaurateur will be performing a live cooking demonstration. Any enquiries made on the day that result in an order will receive a 10% discount, Jon continues.

In terms of current trends, Jon says that the handleless door is very popular; though it's usually finished in high gloss, a more user-friendly matt finish is another option. "Pull-out storage solutions have come a long way since the basic plastic carousel fitted in kitchens in the 1990s. Now we have quality wirework that can be fitted to make it easy to organise your storage."￾

Jon concludes: "Lighting is fast becoming one of the most important things to consider when planning your kitchen. LED lights placed in, under or on top of cupboards can create a wonderful mood for your kitchen, while also being practical."
